What is California
Academic Decathlon?
The California Academic Decathlon organizes events for high school students to compete in ten academic disciplines, promoting teamwork, learning, and personal growth. Open to students of all abilities, it fosters intellectual curiosity and resilience while equipping participants with skills for academic and life success. Schools receive resources for effective participation.

This Year's Theme
The 2025–2026 Academic Decathlon theme is The Roaring Twenties, a dynamic exploration of one of the most transformative decades in modern history. Students will dive into the Jazz Age through art, music, and literature, with The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald as the featured long work. The curriculum also includes the study of algebra and trigonometry, electricity and magnetism, economics with an emphasis on the U.S. economy of the 1920s, and the social and cultural changes that defined the era. This year’s theme offers a vibrant, interdisciplinary journey that connects history, culture, and innovation while challenging students to think critically and creatively across all subject areas.
